We offer a specialist Professional Regulatory service to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
The GPhC is the regulatory body responsible for registering pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and for accrediting training providers in the UK. registration and training osteopaths in the UK; it is illegal to work as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician without being registered by the GPhC.
As part of their duty to protect the public, the GPhC has the power to take action by either removing or restricting a professional’s registration if they fall seriously short of the high standards expected.
The GPhC considers allegations of impairment of fitness to practise on grounds including misconduct, lack of competence and ill health.
The investigation process
Allegations are referred to the Investigating Committee to consider. The Investigating Committee may decide that more information is needed or may close the case with no further action taken. If it decides that there is a ‘case to answer’ it will refer the case to the Fitness to Practise Committee.
The Fitness to Practise Committee can place conditions on registration for up to three years, remove the person from the register completely, or suspend them from the register. It may also decide that no action is required.
At any stage, you may be subject to an interim suspension order of up to 18 months while the Committee considers your case.
