The pro-bono unit at Neumans LLP takes its commitment and responsibility to the community very seriously. As part of its on-going endeavours, lawyers from the firm are advising on claims under the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 and arising from the recent riots in Tottenham, including for property owners Omar and Barbara Malik whose home and contents were destroyed. Omar and Barbara lived in the River Heights complex above the Carpetright store.

The Riot (Damages) Act 1886 was enacted to provide Compensation for Losses by Riots. The compensation is paid out of police funds. Although claims should normally be made within 14 days of the damage occurring, David Cameron has announced in Parliament that the time limit has been extended to 42 days.
