Neumans LLP act for Thamer Al-Shanfari in the Court of First Instance [Case T-121/09 Al-Shanfari –v- Council & Commission]
Thamer Al-Shanfari was former Chairman and Chief Executive of the Oryx Group of Companies which were involved in diamond mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As at 26th February 2009 Thamer Al-Shanfari was placed on a Zimbabwe EU Restrictions List (“the List”) which effectively froze his assets across the EU and made him subject to a travel ban under EU and terrorist legislation, contrary to his Human Rights.
Neumans appealed this decision to the Court of First Instance and, as at 3rd March 2010, he together with the Oryx Group of Companies was removed from the List. Mr Al-Shanfari represents the only living person removed from this List and Neumans are pleased with the result.
