Humayun Ahmad is a Solicitor-Advocate and has full rights of audience. As such, he is qualified to represent clients as an advocate in England & Wales. He has a broad based commercial/chancery practice which encompasses all aspects of commercial litigation and dispute resolution work - both international and domestic.

Humayun has considerable experience of applications for urgent interim orders, in particular freezing and disclosure. Throughout the course of his career he has been instructed on contentious cases involving company law, partnership disputes, insolvency, trusts and general commercial disputes. This includes cases concerning fraud, dishonesty and misfeasance in a range of activities, including: company directors, trustees, public officers, financial services, taxation, accountants and lawyers. Additionally, he has also acted on a number of media litigation matters involving advising both Claimants and Defendants in relation to libel and slander.

Aside from traditional litigation, Humayun is well versed in alternative means of dispute resolution and has solid experience of mediation, adjudications and arbitrations with particular emphasis on the latter. He has recently been involved in a number of multi-jurisdictional and complex multi-million dollar international arbitrations. He has previously advised in relation to matters in Gibraltar, USA and the Middle East.

  • Currently tasked with the responsibility of running a complex arbitration on behalf of the largest supplier of electricity in Italy. The issues arise out of a complex contract for engineering, design, procurement, manufacturing, construction, testing, commissioning, training and start-up necessary for the establishment and satisfactory operation of a large steam power plant in a foreign country. Value is well over $10 million.

  • Currently advising a Saudi Company with regards to an impending arbitration against Halliburton Ltd in relation to the protection of minority shareholders within a joint venture in the Middle East.
    Secured permanent final injunction and damages for breach of confidential information which was then used to gain a competitive advantage between computer supply businesses.

  • Interim injunction secured for client on trade interference action between retail competitors.

  • Interim freezing order and damages in excess of £350,000 obtained for breach of fiduciary duty in relation to a constructive trust by professional advisors.

  • Successfully acted for Claimants in a group litigation case against Benji’s resulting in the winding up of Benji’s Ltd.

  • Secured a prominent apology and retraction from a number of tabloid newspapers as well as the broadsheet press in relation to various articles concerning the business dealings of a prominent public figure.

  • Acted for Claimants in relation to claim in excess of £50,000 concerning negligent surveyors’ report.
