ACAS
ACAS stands for Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. ACAS is an organisation devoted to preventing and resolving employment disputes. The ACAS helpline receives around 800,000 telephone calls a year. The helpline gives advice and information on employment disputes and employment rights and rules.
BIS
The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) was created from part of the former Department for Trade and Industry (DTI). It is the government department that is responsible for employment law.

Insolvency Service
The Insolvency Service is a government department who, amongst other things assess and pay statutory entitlement to redundancy payments when an employer cannot or will not pay its employees and provide information to the public on insolvency and redundancy matters.

Employment Tribunals
The Employment Tribunals are independent judicial bodies who determine disputes between employers and employees over employment rights. Employment Tribunals hear claims about matters to do with employment. An Employment Tribunal is like a court but not as formal.
