Brian Aldred joined Neumans in 2010 as a solicitor-advocate. He is also a qualified duty solicitor with extensive experience of representing people facing the most serious of charges. He specialises in dealing with serious crime; and his recent cases include ones of conspiracy to import firearms, blackmail and multi-million pound VAT frauds.
Brian has practiced exclusively in the criminal courts, and, therefore, has a great breadth of experience, having dealt with everything from simple motoring cases in the Magistrates’ Court, through to jury trials in the Crown Courts. Cases include murder at the Old Bailey, complex appellate cases in the Court of Appeal and House of Lords. Examples of Brian’s appellate work include R v Turner (Laurie) [2000] Crim LR 325, CA, concerning the requirement for unanimity of the jury and the legal elements of indecent assault; R v P [2002] 1 AC 146, HL, concerning the admissibility of telephone intercepts in a major drugs conspiracy. Brian recently succeeded in persuading the Court of Appeal to quash a sentence of imprisonment for public protection for a client convicted of ‘a campaign of violent robberies’.
Brian graduated with a law degree from the University of Kent and Canterbury, then went on to do the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in London. He was called to the Bar in 1994 (Inner Temple) and completed his pupillage to qualify as a barrister in 1995. Brian re-qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and has practised throughout London, the South East and Western circuits.
Brian plays football and tennis to keep fit, enjoys chess and other tactical games, and, is learning Spanish at evening classes, to assist in his love of travel. |
